Admiral Fabio Agostini, commander of the IRINI operation of EUNAVFOR-MED and former head of the Public Information and Communication Department of the Defense General Staff, was the second guest of the Avio Aero Talk, an innovative format of virtual appointments organized by the company for its employees in which external guests bring their contribution on current issues and of particular interest to the corporate population.

The admiral, who followed the rector of the Polytechnic of Turin Guido Saracco, shared his experience in communication and crisis management in a peculiar context such as the military one. Relations with the media, cross-media activity and safeguarding the truth are just some of the cornerstones of those who are called to coordinate the communication of an institution such as the Armed Forces, which have proved to be essential even in this period of widespread emergency.

“Integrated communication strategies are needed to mitigate fake news and avoid media crises in emergency situations. Today it is more than ever necessary to use all the essential communication channels to reach your stakeholders, using them in a coordinated way in order to spread a coherent, cohesive and understandable message - said Admiral Fabio Agostini. A recent success story is the management of information by public entities during the coronavirus emergency. Having communicated punctually, in a centralized and constant manner, the progress of the epidemiological situation and the interventions put in place has allowed the diffusion of a unique message reducing the space for fake news to a minimum. Institutional communication has done its job well. "

There was no lack of reflections on the current role of the admiral in charge of the IRINI operation, crucial in the management of the Libyan crisis and in guaranteeing security and stability in the Mediterranean.

The appointment with the Avio Aero Talk will continue with Nathalie Tocci, political scientist and director of the IAI (Institute for International Affairs), who will take stock of how international scenarios are evolving and how the new "risiko" of alliances and global influences is being composed.
