The Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications of the Kingdom of Bahrain has recently signed a contract with Leonardo to upgrade the air traffic control systems and radar at Manama Airport. The project is part of a broader Bahrain program aimed at enhancing aviation safety, airspace efficiency and regional air navigation services.

The agreement, announced at the Bahrain International Airshow, includes the supply, delivery and installation of advanced sensors, including the ATCR 33S NG primary surveillance radar and the SIR S/I secondary surveillance radar. These technologies, together with other equipment, will enhance the air traffic management capabilities, providing real-time, high-resolution surveillance across the Kingdom's airspace.

The supply, which will extend for three years until early 2027, includes on-site installation together with in-service support activities, including remote support, to ensure the operational effectiveness and sustainability of the radar systems throughout the duration of the contract, in line with the highest technological standards.

This upgrade represents a significant step forward in Bahrain’s air traffic management capabilities, strengthening the country’s strategic role in the Middle East aviation system. The Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications, in partnership with Leonardo, is proud to promote Bahrain’s safety, efficiency and technological leadership with this crucial infrastructure investment.
