Finmeccanica: over 400 million euros from the new Eurofighter radar

The value for Finmeccanica of the 400 billion-euro contract signed today in Edinburgh between the European consortium Eurofighter GmbH, producer of the Typhoon fighter and the intergovernmental agency NETMA (Born Eurofighter and Tornado Management) amounted to over 1 million. Agency) for the development of the Captor-E electronic scanning radar, designed to equip the aircraft.

Finmeccanica, through the subsidiaries Selex ES and Alenia Aermacchi, will contribute to the development, production and integration of the new equipment, which has multiple operational advantages compared to mechanical scanning radars, including greater visibility of the airspace and target discovery capacity, with advanced air-to-ground functionality and optimized electronic protection measures.

Finmeccanica-Selex ES will implement the new radar at its plants in Edinburgh and Nerviano (Milan) while Finmeccanica-Alenia Aermacchi (Turin plant) will be responsible for navigating systems as part of the radar integration activities.

The companies of the Finmeccanica Group are responsible for more than 60% of the on-board electronics of the Eurofighter Typhoon, of approximately 20% of aerostructures as well as significant training and simulation activities for the four partner countries (United Kingdom, Italy, Germany and Spain) and for export market customers.
