Finmeccanica has been awarded a contract worth around 100 million for the supply to the Philippine Navy of two AgustaWestland AW159 helicopters. The aircraft will be produced at the Helicopters division of Yeovil, UK, and delivered during the 2018.
With this order, which includes a training and support package, the Philippines join the United Kingdom and the Republic of Korea among AW159 customers and further strengthen the long-standing relationship between its Armed Forces and Finmeccanica after the previous programs in the aeronautical and helicopter field.
Filipino AW159 will be equipped with a wide range of sophisticated mission equipment and systems, mainly dedicated to antisubmarine and anti-ship tasks. Helicopters will also be able to carry out other missions such as search and rescue, surveillance and maritime patrol.
