Fincantieri received an order from Chantiers de l'Atlantique for the construction of the bow sections of four logistic support units based on the project of the Italian unit "Vulcano".

The sections will be built in the shipyard of Castellammare di Stabia, as for the ship "Vulcano", with scheduled deliveries between the 2021 and the 2027.

The contract is part of the FLOTLOG program ("Flotte logistique"), which provides for the construction of four logistic support ships (LSS) for the French Navy by the temporary consortium formed by Chantiers de l'Atlantique and Naval Group within the framework of the French-Italian LSS program led by OCCAR (Organization for joint armaments cooperation) on behalf of the DGA, the French Directorate General for Armaments, and its Italian counterpart NAVARM. In this context, Chantiers de l'Atlantique and Naval Group agreed to entrust Fincantieri with the construction of bow sections for the four units.

The LSS project, like that of the other units of the multi-year program for the renewal of the fleet of the Italian Navy, is characterized by a very high level of innovation that makes the ship extremely flexible in its different use profiles with a high degree of efficiency.

The LSS combines transport capacity and transfer to other naval units of liquid cargo (diesel, aviation fuel, fresh water) and solid (respected parts, food and ammunition).
