EDGE, a leading global advanced technology and defense group, and Leonardo, a leading global industrial group developing technological expertise in the aerospace, defense and security sectors, have signed an innovative agreement to further strengthen their collaboration in the development of solutions in six domains considered of critical importance. Both groups aim to consolidate existing synergies and exploit new complementary opportunities for closer collaboration.
The agreement, signed during theInternational Defense Exhibition (IDEX) 2025, currently underway in Abu Dhabi, will focus on the United Arab Emirates market and will include a global export strategy, promoting closer synergies, knowledge sharing and consolidation of specialized resources to more effectively seize and develop opportunities in areas such as: air capabilities including radar technologies, in particular on multi-mission aircraft; defense capabilities against tactical ballistic missiles; anti-drone and surveillance systems; naval combat management systems; radio communications and, finally, optical targeting systems.
Hamad Al Marar, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of EDGE Group, said: “This important step marks the next phase of our strategic agreement with Leonardo, a leading company in the sector, and builds on the opportunities offered by the strong relationship between the UAE and Italy. Primarily, it reinforces our vision of growth through mutually beneficial partnerships, ensuring a win-win approach in seeking and realizing complementary multi-domain opportunities globally and in expanding these synergies for continued economic growth, innovation and excellence, in support of security in a sustainable manner.”
The agreement anticipates a structured partnership aimed at jointly promoting these products and solutions to the governments of different countries. It also provides for the joint development of intellectual property and future innovative projects.
Lorenzo Mariani, Leonardo's co-CEO, added: "We are honored and excited to collaborate with EDGE Group to build new industrial capabilities for domestic and export needs. The sectors identified as pillars of this joint strategy are becoming increasingly important in an evolving market and operating landscape. We believe that joining forces in these fields will enable us to offer the capabilities required by the UAE and other export markets."
The strategic agreement aims to further strengthen EDGE and Leonardo's capabilities in the design of cutting-edge and complex systems in innovative sectors with significant market potential, representing a crucial step in the diversification and expansion of both groups' air, land, naval and cyber solutions portfolios.
