There is more defense in the wallets of Italian savers. This is what emerges from an analysis by Fida - Finanza Dati Analisi - for the event of "Connact Defense & Security" entitled “European Common Defence: Financing and Industrial Integration”. The day of work was organized by Connact, the event platform that promotes discussion between private individuals and institutions through moments of meeting and networking and was held this morning in Rome.

Fida analysis for “Connact Defence & Security”

The analysis takes into consideration the last 3 quarters of 2024 and the first quarter of 2025 and aims to investigate how much savings are allocated to defense in funds and ETFs sold in Italy by calculating the evolution of the average portfolio weight. Looking at the operators, in fact, the weight on the defense sector is slightly increasing in the financial products sold in Italy. "We analyzed the composition of a universe of 3.500 portfolios over the last 4 quarters that constitute the assets held by over 27.000 managed savings instruments including mutual funds and ETFs authorized for distribution in Italy in order to estimate the presence of stocks and bonds in the Aerospace and Defense sector", explains Luca Lodi, head of R&D at Fida, "The results show a non-negligible average consistency, concentrated on equity-type instruments. According to the estimates, the average weight of European industry stocks is now very similar to that of American companies with a growth dynamic consistent with the trend of stock prices". Direct investments in North America (of funds and ETFs sold in Italy) have an average weight that varies between 0,35% in the second quarter of 2024 and 0,37% in the first quarter of 2025. Direct investments in Europe, on the other hand, grow more markedly: the weight on the total of the second quarter of 0,29 rises to a value of 2024% in the first quarter of 0,35.
