The C-27J Spartan multi-mission transport aircraft by Leonardo-Finmeccanica begins today a demonstration tour in various Latin American countries. The plane will travel the continent from north to south, from Panama to La Paz, in Bolivia, passing through Buenos Aires and finally reaching the Argentine Antarctic Base of Marambio.

The tour will demonstrate the capabilities of the C-27J in the extreme climatic and orographic conditions of the continent, highlighting not only its robustness and versatility, but also its reliability, qualities necessary to be able to operate safely in such difficult conditions, already widely demonstrated in Peru and Mexico. The C-27J Spartan was conceived from the design phase to meet military specifications and, compared to its direct competitors, ensures greater speed, the ability to fly at higher altitudes and greater autonomy, all factors that make it the perfect solution for a wide range of military requirements in Latin America. In addition, the C-27J boasts unparalleled safety records and the ability to land on unprepared tracks, whatever the weather.

Umberto Rossi, Head of Marketing and Sales of the Aircraft Division of Leonardo-Finmeccanica, said: "Latin America is an important market for the C-27J, both for employment in defense roles and for humanitarian assistance tasks. We believe that the C-27J, both in cargo configuration and in its special versions, is an excellent solution for different Armed Forces in the region thanks to its versatility and capacity, ideal for operating in the geographical context and on the long distances that characterize the Latin America. The C-27J has lower operating costs and higher cargo productivity than comparable aircraft ".

The C-27J Spartan is a highly successful new generation tactical transport aircraft on the market, with 82 aircraft ordered by 14 operators on five continents. In Latin America the C-27J is already in service with the Air Forces of Mexico and Peru. In the USA the C-27J is operated by the Coast Guard and the Army Special Forces Command. Other customers are Australia, Italy, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Slovakia, Morocco, Chad, and an additional African country.
