The ceremony was attended, among others, by Dario Deste, General Manager of Fincantieri's Naval Vessels Division, Giovanni Sorrentino, CEO of OSN, the Director of OCCAR, General Joachim Sucker, Admiral Vincenzo Montanaro, Commander of the Southern Interregional Maritime Command, Admiral Chief Inspector Giuseppe Abbamonte, Director of Naval Armaments and General Francois Watteau, representative of the DGA.

The FREMM programme, launched in 2005 with the delivery of the first unit of the Class in July 2012, foresees the supply of four units in the FREMM configuration. General Purpose, four Anti-submarine and two Anti-submarine Enhanced. As part of this program, two new-generation FREMM frigates in the “EVOLUTION” version, called “FREMM EVO”, are being built at the Fincantieri Integrated Shipyard in Riva Trigoso and Muggiano, with delivery of the first unit scheduled for 2029 and the second in 2030.

Ship Spartacus Schergat, built at the Fincantieri Integrated Shipyard in Riva Trigoso and Muggiano and equipped with the most advanced systems produced by Fincantieri, Leonardo, MBDA and Elettronica, is characterized, like the other FREMM units, by a high flexibility of use and has the ability to operate in all tactical situations. It is 144 meters long, 19,7 meters wide and has a displacement at full load of approximately 6.700 tons. It can reach a speed of over 27 knots with a maximum capacity of approximately 200 people on board.

The innovative and cyber resilient features of these units are the result of significant design, organizational and management efforts. A strong automation of the latest generation on-board systems has been introduced and used for all on-board services. This approach has helped to ensure high operational availability, supported by an optimized maintenance profile. In-depth studies of human factors they also directed the project towards the creation of more efficient and optimized work environments and spaces for the different operational needs. The ship is also equipped with a significant autonomy (approximately 6000 nautical miles at 15 knots) and suitable logistical standards for prolonged operations even outside the wider Mediterranean.

Ship Spartacus Schergat, first of the two units in configuration Anti-submarine Enhanced It is optimized in a multi-role version with systems peculiar to both the version General Purpose, or with the ability to provide a balanced contribution in all forms of combat, both in the anti-submarine version, or with strong ASW capabilities for operations seacontrol, to protect maritime lines of communication and naval interdiction. It will also be able to act as a complex command center, managing operations in contexts joint e combined.

The FREMM program - European Multi-Mission Frigate, is the most important joint initiative developed between European industries in the naval field and represents the state of the art of Italian and European defense. It was born from the need to renew the line of units of the Navy, including the "Lupo" and "Maestrale" classes, built by Fincantieri in the Seventies and Eighties.
