India–Italy collaboration an opportunity for two great countries

Since yesterday, the Undersecretary of State for Defense Matteo Perego of Cremnago, by delegation from the Minister of Defence, has been engaged in India for the Aero India 2023 show (February 13-17), a series of events that sees the participation of over 800 international companies operating in the defense sector.

In the morning, the meeting between the Government representatives of the Defense took place on Defense minister's conclave by Title 'Shared Prosperity through Enhanced Engagements in Defence' (SPEED).

“India is the fifth largest economy in the world and in 2030 it could be the third in addition to becoming the most populous country in the world” thus the undersecretary in his speech at the conclave "trade with our country of around 14 billion, albeit up 42% compared to the previous year, is definitely below potential".

“Our two great countries” continued Perego “they share a millenary history and strong roots that make them both important geopolitical players in the areas of our greatest influence. India is a leading power in the Indo-Pacific and, in the defense sector, the progressive diversification from Russian dependence and the make in India strategy must be seized as an opportunity for our national companies from the sectors from the field naval to air, electronics, munitions."

“My Presence Here” concluded the undersecretary "and above all the forthcoming meetings of the Italian Government, together with the work aimed at signing a new cooperation agreement in the defense sector, mark a new season of emphasis on relations between our two countries".

During his stay in India, the undersecretary met, accompanied by the Italian ambassador to India Vincenzo De Luca, in two bilateral activities, the Chief of Defense Staff, gen. Anil Chauhan with whom issues on collaboration in the aerial, underwater and electronic warfare domain were discussed, and Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh with whom the need to rapidly renew the Defense cooperation plan.
