Boeing presented today Echo Voyager, its unmanned submarine vehicle (UUV), which would be able to operate independently for months thanks to a rechargeable hybrid power supply system combined with a modular cargo hold.

Along 51 feet (about 15,5 meters) it would not only be autonomous but should be able to be released and recovered without the aid of the specific support ships that normally assist UUVs.

Echo Voyager is the latest member of a UUV family that already includes theEcho Seeker from 32 feet (almost 10 meters) andEcho Ranger from 18 feet (about 5,5 meters). Sea trials will start off the Californian coast by the end of the summer.
