Boeing has published a video showing a new portable laser weapon capable of intercepting drones.

The system Compact Laser Weapons System demonstrated its potential during a trial at Point Mugu in California.

"Think of a blowtorch, but several hundred meters from the target" - says Isaac Neal, a Boeing engineer - "Once the laser was activated, the drone was disabled in 15 seconds".

The laser with a power of 2 kilowatt is composed of four components: a water cooler, a battery power supply, the laser and the shooting direction system. According to the manufacturer, the apparatus, already ready for use, can be managed by a single person.

The Pentagon has long been interested in developing laser weapons.

The Air Force and the Pentagon began testing a 150-kilowatt-made laser by General Atomics against rockets, mortars, missiles and vehicles this summer at the White Sands range in New Mexico. The project, known as Laser Weapon System Demonstrator, or DLWS, is based onHigh Energy Liquid Laser Area Defense System of the Darpa.
