Boeing delivered the fourth P-8I maritime patrol plane to India, respecting the first half of a contract for eight aircraft.

The plane, which departed from the Seattle Boeing runway, arrived at the Rajali Naval Air Station on May 21, where it joined the other three P-8Is currently undergoing operational evaluation.

Based on the Next-Generation 737 commercial aircraft, the P-8I is the Indian Navy variant of the P-8A Poseidon that Boeing developed for the US Navy.

The P-8I incorporates features and subsystems tailored to the maritime patrolling needs of India.

The aircraft is built by an industrial team led by Boeing which includes CFM International, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, Spirit AeroSystems, BAE Systems and GE Aviation.
