Alenia Aermacchi: from Airbus "Best Improving Supplier" award

15/04/14

During a ceremony held in Toulouse, Airbus awarded Alenia Aermacchi as 'Best Improving Supplier' because it was the partner with the most marked improvement in industrial performance during the 2012 and 2013.

The award ceremony took place as part of an initiative called SQIP (supplier Quality Improvement Plan), aimed at the continuous improvement of product quality. This initiative, which sees Alenia Aermacchi working alongside Airbus from 2009, concerns the A321 and A380 programs, for which the large fuselage components are made by Alenia Aermacchi at the Nola plant, near Naples.

During the 2013, Alenia Aermacchi has kept all the delivery commitments envisaged by the program, ranking at the top of the performance with an OTD (On Time Delivery) equal to 99% for the A321 Program.

Alenia Aermacchi has a consolidated partnership with Airbus for over 30 years, started in 1981 with the agreements for the A300 and A310 family of aircraft. Ten years later, in the 1991, Alenia Aermacchi signed an agreement for the design and production of the front section of the A321 fuselage.

In the 2001 Alenia Aermacchi became a partner of the A380 program with the responsibility of producing around 5% of the aircraft's cell. This is the highest participation of a European industry outside the Airbus Group partner companies. The industrial involvement of Alenia Aermacchi concerns the design and production of segments of a section of the aircraft's central fuselage. Thanks to the use of exceptional trains and a dedicated ship that leaves from the port of Naples, the large components of the aircraft reach the Airbus plant in St. Nazaire, France, where they are assembled with other parts from various Airbus sites.
