Finmeccanica-Alenia Aermacchi and the Ministry of Defense of Peru signed, on 31 December 2014, a contract worth approximately 100 million euros for the supply of two C-27J Spartan tactical transport aircraft.
The contract, which raises the total number of C-27J Spartans ordered by Fuerza Aerea of Peru (FAP) to four, also includes integrated logistical support and technical assistance. The first two aircraft, ordered in December 2013, will be delivered to FAP in the first months of 2015, while those relating to the second order will be delivered in 2016 and 2017. The aircraft will be managed by Grupo Aéreo Nº8 based in Callao, on the central coast of Country.
The C-27J Spartan was chosen due to its ability to operate safely and efficiently and at competitive costs in all operational scenarios in the Latin American country, including operations on unprepared runways in the Andes and numerous local airports.
In addition to Peru, the C-27J Spartan has already been ordered by the air forces of Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Romania, Morocco and Slovakia, as well as the United States, Mexico, Australia and an African country, for a total of 80 aircraft.
