It ended on 15th bilateral committee between Italy and Pakistan which saw the secretary of defense and national director of armaments, general of the army corps Luciano Portolano meeting the secretary for production of the ministry of defense of Pakistan, lt gen (retd) Muhammad Chiragh Haider, who recently took office , together with representatives of the Italian industries in the sector such as Electronics, Fincantieri, Leonardo and MBDA Italia.
The committee follows the last one which took place in Rome on 6 October 2022 and intends to strengthen ties between the two countries on defense through growing cooperation and sharing of technologies in synergy with the main Italian defense industries, in the naval sector , aeronautical, Electronic Warfare, air defense and in the logistical support of equipment acquired or in the process of being acquired.
The activity was even more fruitful thanks to the meetings that General Portolano held, in particular, with the Chief of Defense Staff, General Sahir Shanshad Mirza, the Army Chief of Staff, General Syed Asim Munir and Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf.
During the visits, General Portolano underlined the importance that Pakistan has for regional stability. From a geopolitical point of view, the area is characterized by an increase in the resurgence of international terrorism. Hence, the need shared by both parties to promote, in a synergistic manner, the necessary actions aimed at contributing to the improvement of the conditions of security, stability and development in the region.
The Italian delegation also visited the National Aerospace Science & Technology Park (NASTP) in Rawalpindi, a pioneering organization in Pakistan promoted by the government as "a project of strategic national importance" led by Pakistan Air Force which aims to create joint working opportunities between industry, academia and government. The mission of NASTP is to promote research, innovation and development in the aviation, space, IT and cyber defense sectors, in order to create an innovative reference technological ecosystem open to international collaborations.
