Global equilibria in balance: the US establishment against Trump and friendship with Russia

(To Giampiero Venturi)

Never had a president of the United States, just four months after taking office, faced so many enemies on the home front. Trump-outsider, right and left, someone just doesn't go right down.

The media, including the Italian ones, dedicate headlines to alleged revelations by the same President to Russian Minister Lavrov and to the attempt to cover up the now famous Russiagate, through pressure on former FBI chief James Comey.

First the facts. An infinite crawl space was born on the torpedoing of Comey, based on little information, if possible confused.

The hard-working head of the US federal police jumped to the headlines when, in the middle of an electoral campaign, he published the email-gate by Hillary Clinton. He reversed a few days later (July 2017), declaring that Clinton would not be prosecuted.

The tug of war lasted until October, when the political analysis gurus assigned to theFBI the ultimate blame for Hillary's defeat. That the press and TV were uniquely lined up with the candidate The and that this could vaguely orient public opinion, is a detail that many of the same gurus still continue to omit.

Beyond the legal paths that only concern the USA, James Comey seems to have been given too much weight. What is not well understood, in fact, is how a State leader can be an ally of Trump to the point of facilitating his election and at the same time he who could tomorrow favor hisimpeachment. Taking for granted that James Comey is not stupid or bipolar, one of the two truths seems indisputable:

  • theemail-gate Hillary Clinton's was not a commissioned job ordered by Trump;
  • il Russiagate it is a political hoax.

The third hypothesis is not excluded: on both issues the political speculations went far beyond the real facts.

If someone likes the cold war, we observers, by definition, like to look. Then we shoot another episode of fiction "Pillory media against Trump".

In today's episode there is talk of revelations made by the President in Lavrov, about a forthcoming attack by the Islamic State against an American airliner. The information would have come from agents of Mossad in Syria.

The first question that arises is:

"So?"

The scene according to here the Mossad makes the mouse, Trump the chicken and the Russian the fox with the bearskin, more like a joke than a diplomatic case.

Il The Washington Post however, he insists and claims that Trump's revelations were confidential, as if Lavrov worked in the concierge and had no important responsibility for working with the US on global security.

It should be remembered that the authoritative American newspaper, hostage of the fame of Watergate, is that which indicated Trump as the Mussolini of America and which contends with the New York Times the palm of the worst enemy of the White House.

Il tam tam media knows no rest and rebounds even in Italy, where it makes happy those who prefer impeachment to scrapes Pets. TV ABC, in the mood for romance, even accuses the President of endangering the life of an unknown Israeli agent. Yes ... we can confirm that this is precisely the problem of today in the Middle East!

Among the 007 on Sunday, there is even someone nostalgic for Totò and Peppino divided in Berlin which indicates why you should not talk to the Russians (the Post.it, 16 May):

"Because the Russians in Syria are fighting on another front ...".

Of the two, one:

  • or the Americans are not fighting ISIS like Russia does;
  • or the journalist was wrong.

It is good to clarify that the informal agreement between the US and Russia regarding the fight against Islamic terrorism in Syria, provides for collaboration on information regarding mutual security. To this it must be added that Tel Aviv has good relations with Moscow, despite the fact that the Iran node makes a crystalline relationship difficult, and that it is certainly set to improve those with Washington, sunk by the Obama era.

Since Trump's election in November, ISIS has lost about 40% of the territory controlled in Syria and is one step away from the collapse in Iraq. It must be remembered that the collaboration with Russia, which has so far grown under the ashes, is not so bad.

The intermediation of Moscow with the Shiite world in Iran, Syria and Iraq will be fundamental for future balances in the Middle East. Trump will already have the difficult task of not transcending with Tehran. To complicate it by undermining any attempt to improve dialogue between America and Russia would be a huge mistake.

Not understanding it means at best being short-sighted, at worst, having bad faith interests.

To put more fuel on the fire, together with the "spied" made by Trump to Lavrov, the accusation of wanting to cover up the Russiagate. This time it is Repubblica (17 May), another notoriously Trumpian newspaper, to fish out the New York Times and James Comey.

The former head of theFBI he would have been forced to hide evidence of contacts between the presidential staff and the Kremlin and in particular to withdraw from investigations into the already torpedoed Michael Flynn, a clear cause of all the evils from the Civil War onwards.

These are fiery balls all to be verified but in the meantime launched to public opinion. Comey, considered a sold by liberal circles until last summer, is today depicted as Saint George against the dragon.

It should be remembered that as a sponsor of the Republican MacCain in the 2012 elections and as appointed to theFBI from Obama in the 2013, it is virtually the exact expression of what is called slang Deep State: a rampant man of apparatus in stark contrast to the current President and with a credibility equal to that of Schettino in nautical terms.

The US Congress obviously does not miss the chance to play the charge against Trump. Breathless trumpets are characters who are not at all on the line: the Democrat Pelosi and the party companions Schumer and Schiff! they are joined by the head of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, Republican Bob Corker, to whom no one has yet bothered to report that the Soviet Union broke up in the 1991.

The starting point for reflection is not so much Trump's political consistency, nor his moral depth. On both issues, the time is not ripe.

One wonders if the opportunity to create new diplomatic corridors could also be that for more stable global geopolitical balances.

The figure that appears to emerge in the witch-hunt so far is one: Hillary Clinton's electoral defeat was not foreseen and many assets were skipped.

Russophobia as a panacea for all evil, does not seem to be a perspective with a great strategic profile. Over time it will resolve into a media boomerang. As annihilated by the mainstream's big box, readers and geopolitical enthusiasts are not all completely stupid ...
