American forces already present on Syrian territory would have been redeployed in Tall Abyad, an area controlled by the Kurds close to the Turkish border. Lebanese sources reported, citing the previous deployment of special forces in the Al-Monbath base. The troops would amount to around 50 specialists, only some of whom identified as advisers to the Kurdish militias. They would be in possession of heavy weapons and about 20 armored vehicles.

The American presence, as reported by Washington, acts as a buffer between the Kurdish forces ofSDF (in which they also fight Arab militants) and the so-called "moderate rebels" groups in the Turkish area. Avoiding clashes between the parties would make the fight against the Caliphate more effective.

The news comes just as the battle for Aleppo rages, whose echo is now in the public domain on an international scale. The Syrian armed forces are rapidly advancing in the northern sector of the second Syrian city. The ground offensive to free the eastern urban districts is accompanied by intense Russian aerial bombardment. The fact is the basis of the dispute between the US and Russia regarding the possibility of restarting a "ceasefire" in the metropolitan area of Aleppo. Moscow is willing to suspend raids for 48 hours; Washington asks for a stop for at least a week.

The US base of Tall Abyad is just over 200 km from Syria's second city, the crux of the whole war. Gas is getting closer to fire.
