A Russian helicopter crashed a few hours ago in Syria. A combat helicopter of the Russian Air Force (VVS) - probably a Mi-35 SuperHind - was forced to make an emergency landing near Huwaysis, 40 kilometers north-east of Palmyra.

The Russian Ministry of Defense reports that the helicopter was destroyed by a mortar shell that hit it after landing. According to local sources, the helicopter would have been hit by a rocket launched from an undefined location near Huwaysis. Moscow announced that the crew remained unhurt and was immediately transported to the Hmeimim base.
