Last week, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, during his speech at the United Nations, formally expressed his invitation to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) to speak at the Knesset, the Israeli parliament in Jerusalem. This invitation, if accepted, would in turn, according to Netanyahu's proposal, be reciprocated by giving a speech to the parliament of the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah.

At the center of both talks there would be the hoped-for resumption of direct negotiations and the cessation of instigation of hatred on the Palestinian side, according to Israeli Prime Minister himself. Abu Mazen, however, declined the invitation by offering his explanations in detail to the United Nations. According to the same Authority, in fact, a crucial point for the resumption of talks is the interruption by Israel "of the colonial settlement activities and attacks on the cities, villages and Palestinian refugee camps". In particular, the president had to reiterate that "the expansionist plans that Israel pursues through the settlements will destroy any hope that has still remained regarding the two-state solution to the borders of the 1967: the settlements are illegal in every respect and in all their manifestations ".

According to the Authority, therefore, Palestine "will continue to pressure and consult with Arab countries and all other countries for a resolution of the Security Council on settlements and settler terrorism". In this regard, the Israeli prime minister praised the development of relations between Israel and the Sunni Arab countries in the area, including Saudi Arabia, united in the struggle against common enemies Iran and Daech, certain that "the changes taking place in the Arab world offer a unique opportunity to advance peace".

At the same time, the President of the Palestinian Authority, before the session of the United Nations General Assembly, asked to proclaim the 2017 international year for the end of the occupation of Palestine and its people. The year will also commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Israeli occupation which took place in June 1967.
