Iraq: the weapons abandoned by ISIS on the run are American

Iraqi military sources help to see clearly about the events following the liberation of Falluja.

First, the lethal attack on 29 June's fleeing jihadist convoy would have been carried out by the Iraqi air force. The Joint Special Operation Command would have given green light to the Baghdad area forces after the refusal of the Coalition forces to start the action due to the high number of civilians mixed with the convoy. The same military sources speak of "Families of jihadists on the run".

The militiamen of the Islamic State who escaped the attack would have left a huge amount of weapons and vehicles on the ground, immediately seized by Iraqi forces. Among the abandoned weapons there would be an impressive number of M79 OSA, Serbian-made antitank weapons supplied in large quantities by the US State Department to the so-called Syrian "moderate rebels". Originally the weapons were intended for Free Syrian Army as a deterrent against the armored troops of Damascus. Why the weapons ended up in the hands of the Caliphate is to be discovered. Ties between Syrian rebel fronts and Islamists are nothing new but concerns about the State Department's training programs and Middle Eastern policies are growing.
