The U.S. Department of Defense announced that there are approximately 2.000 troops in Syria, up from the 900 previously reported.
Pentagon spokesman Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder said 1.100 of these are temporary rotational forces, sent on short-duration missions (30-90 days) in response to operational needs. central command, while the remaining 900 constitute the fixed contingent, with longer missions (9-12 months).
These numbers reflect the evolution of the mission in the country and have been active since before the recent fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime (8 December).
