On February 20, 2025, the commander of the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75), Dave Snowden, was relieved of his duties due to the loss of confidence in his ability to command.

The decision was made by Rear Admiral Sean Bailey, commander of the carrier strike group 8.

This rotation follows a collision occurred on February 12 between the USS Harry S. Truman and the merchant ship Besiktas-M near Port Said, Egypt, in the Mediterranean Sea.

The current commander of the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69), Christopher Hill, will temporarily assume command of USS Harry S. Truman.
