A Kurdish spokesman said that Peshmerga forces yesterday rejected an assault by Hashd al-Shaabi militia (supported by Iran) and the Iraqi army in Makhmour town, causing several victims among the attackers.

"At 12, Hashd al-Shaabi attacked the Peshmerga on the heights of Bazarga at Makhmour"confirmed a second source, adding that the attack was neutralized, and four Hummer belonging to Shiite militias would be destroyed.

Following the incident, the Peshmerga Ministry issued a statement accusing Iraqi forces of violating the agreements reached between the two sides.

In recent days, Iraqi forces would launch a similar attack on Rabia on the Syrian border. Even then they would be rejected.

For over a week there have been movements of vehicles and troops to the Kurdish area by the Iraqi army and allied militias. Among the first to officially report them was the US Defense itself.
