Nigeria: the incredible descent of Muhammadu Buhari

It seemed to be a dream when the APC (All Progress Party) announced the appearance of the candidate Muhammadu Buhari (former president during a military regime in the 80s) with the expectation of revaluing Nigeria. Right from the start it was understood that the dream would turn into a nightmare for entrepreneurs and investors: a completely stagnant economy and the absence of strategies have led to social unrest and discontent in the population. The same one who had believed in him in the last elections, when he proclaimed himself a champion of anti-corruption.

With the fight against corruption, Buhari made himself loved by other heads of state such as Merkel, Macron, Renzi and later Gentiloni. In the first six months of his presidential tenure, he traveled to track down illicitly stolen money and signed capital repayment deals. But despite having also strengthened and given full powers to the EFCC, equivalent of the Guardia di Finanza, headed by the super policeman Magu, and established a special body under the control of the Minister of Justice, the Presidential Panel for the Recovery Asset, commanded by Obla, another super policeman, not even a Naira (Nigerian currency, ed.) has returned home. It was just a means of propaganda, because the EFCC did not get the desired results, with agents who let themselves be bribed to close the cases, leaving Magu to work alone and without means, even risking her life during an attempt to eliminate him in which she died. a security guard. At the same time, Obla and his team of special agents do not even have the funds to pay for the petrol of the service cars.

An economic preservation policy that has led Buhari Nigeria to be no longer attractive to foreign investors with opportunities for financial development. A disastrous economic policy that has encouraged the emigration to Europe of many young people who see no chance of work.

Nigeria has one of the highest oil, mineral and agricultural reserves, the government has not been able to expand them and develop exports that could have restored a large part of the nation's economy. Instead, despite the thousands of useless "national authorities" set up for the purpose, we continue to sell only locally.

Buhari has not only failed on a social level, the biggest defeat has been on the level of security in which he has invested very little in terms of resources, not allowing the Agencies and Armed Forces to adequately supply themselves to fight terrorism and crime. An already negligible budget was practically limited to the payment of wages. The equipment lacks maintenance, thousands of vehicles and vehicles are no longer in use because you cannot buy a simple petrol filter, underpaid and ill-equipped agents do not even have the appearance of "combat ready".

The Nigerian Army is today devoid of resources to combat terrorism Boko Haram, which still dominates the Northeast and continues to kidnap entire schoolchildren, under the eyes of an incapable and careless president so much as to snub the problem and not go to the field in person, as a real head of government would do.

On the other hand, we saw Buhari, prefer the company of Naomi Campbell for the inauguration of the multi billionaire project of EKO Atlantic in Lagos instead of going to the funeral of the 30 dead soldiers while fighting against the terrorists ... As was absent in the last massacres at the hands of the nomads Fulani (tribal group to which Buhari belongs) who, in the transhumance of livestock, exterminate entire villages if they are denied passage to the land.

The Navy is unsuitable in terms of structure and equipment, for the control of the coasts and the thousands of rivers where the rich oil industry develops, with consequent development of criminal activities such as piracy, kidnapping and oil theft that it also involves illegal refining and enormous damage to the environment.

The Intelligence Services apparatus, SSS, is not able to exploit the sources on the ground (HUMINT) to prevent terrorist attacks that have evolved lately with the use of "suicide bombers" or to make better use of Israeli equipment available to capture communications between members of Boko Haram.

Buhari has surrounded himself with an entourage without any technical or administrative management skills, which leads to inefficiencies in the normal handling of the simplest practices: they are "processed" only if you pay and get bribed!

Nothing has therefore changed and, despite the beautiful and promising words, Buhari has not been able to keep the promises made during the election campaign.

Corruption spreads, the nation does not develop and the population suffers.

In spite of all these negative aspects, the European Union, in its respectable mentality, continues to believe in Buhari, so much so that the EU delegation and all the ambassadors of the Member States have expressed full support for the present Nigerian government and would be happy to support a any re-election of the same. Is a European Union happy to welcome the thousands of Nigerian immigrants to support the hundreds of NGOs who base their economy on the human market?

Buhari, during a recent conference of the APC, announced his re-nomination for the 2019 presidential elections, declaring: "IT IS THE PEOPLE ASKING ME!" Obviously Buhari does not know how to read the signals of his own people, hungry and tired of his disastrous politics, and does not want to see the economic damage caused by his government in recent years.

The signals are very different, from those interpreted by Buhari. The Nigerian people want back the "CHANGE", the change so promised: you can see it with the many campaigns with hashtags like BABAGIVECHANGEBACK or INotStandWithBuhari.

Surely, Nigeria needs a real and healthy change with honest but also capable people. The elections are close and the opposition party, PDP, is waiting for the people to speak out democratically.
