Interview with Rheinmetall Italia CEO Alessandro Ercolani: "We will have staff engaged for at least twenty years!"

La j between Leonardo and Rheinmetall, announced last month, marks the birth of a new European player in the development and production of military combat vehicles, with the aim of creating cutting-edge platforms capable of competing on a global scale.

With this strategic partnership, which will be operational at the beginning of 2025, the company is born Leonardo Rheinmetall Military Vehicles (LRMV), destined to become a point of reference for the modernization of the Italian and European armed forces. The legal headquarters of LRMV will be in Rome, with the operational headquarters in La Spezia, highlighting the commitment of both partners to to establish the main production and technological activities in Italy.

The project not only represents a milestone in the creation of an independent and innovative European defence system, but also promises significant employment benefits. With a 50:50 division of labour between companies and 60% of the operations planned on Italian territory, the agreement will help fuel the national defense industry, ensuring new job opportunities and lasting investments for the Italian supply chain.
