17/05/22

The prestigious headquarters of the Center for High Defense Studies (CASD) opens its doors to the public. Palazzo Salviati will be one of the sites of particular historical and architectural interest in Rome that can be visited for free over the next weekend, with entrances from 10.00 to 18.00 (Saturday 21 is Sunday 22 May 2022).

The event is part of the initiative Open House Roma which, on an annual basis, offers the possibility of accessing buildings in the capital of considerable cultural interest, normally not open to visitors or partially accessible to the public.

Palazzo Salviati is a Renaissance building whose construction dates back to 1520 on the initiative of Filippo Adimari, an illustrious and cultured Florentine prelate, based on a project by Giulio Romano. It was completed in 1568 by Nanni di Baccio Bigio on behalf of the then owner, Cardinal Giovanni Salviati. Inside you can see the monumental staircase, a preciously decorated sixteenth-century chapel and the library frescoed by the painter Annibale Brugnoli with episodes taken from the Risorgimento wars. Of particular interest is also the opportunity to visit the gardens that once housed the open-air theater of the poets of Arcadia.

The Palace took on its current configuration in 1933 with the construction of the wing that delimits the courtyard towards the park and the monumental entrance built in 1837. Since 1971 the Palace has been the seat of the Center for High Defense Studies, Institution that has recently assumed (for three years, on an experimental basis) the role of Higher School with Special Defense System (SSOSD). The CASD carries out its mission by dedicating itself to the high post-university training of officers of the Armed Forces and representatives of the Public Administration / Defense Industry and, precisely in function of the recent recognition as SSOSD, in favor of all citizens who aspire to achieve a research doctorate in Innovation Sciences for Defense and Security, constituting a point of reference, in Italy and abroad, in the sector of security and defense studies.

To take part in the visit it is necessary book on the site Open House Roma # OHR22.

At the entrance you will be asked for a identification document valid.

During the visit of the indoor places, the obligation to wear the surgical mask or FPP2 remains.
