The series of events dedicated to the protection of artistic and cultural heritage victims of terrorism has begun

Il Crime and Justice Studies Center announces the first meeting of a series of international events dedicated to the protection of artistic and cultural heritage threatened or destroyed by wars and terrorism. The initiative, entitled “Lost Heritage, Threatened Identities: Archaeology and Terrorism in the Modern World”, will be held online live from the DIFESA ONLINE YouTube channel and is free, upon registration via email to the address: criminalitaegiustizia@gmail.com. Prestigious institutions and prominent personalities will be present during the events, including the famous archaeologist Zahi Hawass. All names will be revealed during the presentation day.

The opening event will take place on February 7, 2025 at 15:00 and will open a series of three webinars that will explore the connection between archaeology, history, culture and identity of a people, focusing on the risks associated with the destruction of cultural heritage and the successes in its recovery. The series is organized by the Centro Studi Criminalità e Giustizia, chaired by the lawyer. Sarah Bregante, and moderated by Dr. Roberta Colombo, author and head of the Publications and Journalism section of the Center.

The event is sponsored by (in y/y): AISS Italian Subsidiary Security Association, Carlo Gabrielli Rosi Contemporary History Study Center, Ugo Cerletti Study Center, CISINT Italian Center for Strategy and Intelligence, Online Defense and Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention and Human Security.

The event opened with institutional greetings from: Khaled Ahmad Zekriya, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to Italy; Franco Cecconi, President of AISS Italian Association of Subsidiary Security; C.G. Rose e Andrea Giannasi, respectively director and representative of the Centre for Contemporary History Studies; Andrea Cucco, director of Difesa Online; Molly Reagan e Lyusi Mizoyan, representatives of the Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention and Human Security.

A program of historical and cultural insights

The first appointment will offer a historical focus by prof. Moreno Pedrinzani, which will delve into the events of our nation, one of the richest in artistic heritage, through episodes and curiosities that have marked the historical and cultural path of our country.

Dr Nicholas Christofoli will provide an insight into ballistic profiles, while the prof. Marco Bocchese, Mark Rejected e Marco Pugliese will discuss the topic of cultural genocide from legislative, philosophical and economic perspectives, offering food for thought on implications and future solutions.

A round table for dialogue

The event will conclude with a round table discussion, during which participants will have the opportunity to engage with the speakers, share ideas and ask questions.

A series of meetings for culture

The entire cycle of events was conceived by Dr. Mary Louise Onion, and aims to be a point of reference for exploring the relationship between culture, identity and the risks arising from conflicts and acts of terrorism. Each event will offer a unique and multidisciplinary perspective, involving experts from different fields.
