Landings in Italy: illegal immigrants or refugees?

19/07/15

It no longer even attracts the attention of the media, perhaps "warned" not to emphasize a phenomenon managed with approaches that are not always shared. The flow of desperate people who land on the Italian coasts is now a reality to live with every day.

On the other hand, a twitter by Minister Alfano is highlighted, announcing the capture of a murderous robber of the goldsmith from Prati. A fair applause to the Police but also a routine news as it is a normal operation of the Institute. It would not be bad, however, if the Minister of the Interior accompanied these and other "successful edicts" with some comments on how the problem of migrants and the related public order is managed and on the obvious "second thoughts" of some Prefects on the displacement of migrants , as the facts in the provinces of Treviso and Eraclea show us.

The situation is increasingly chaotic. It certainly does not help either the management of the problem or a shared and conscious involvement of the Italian population, certainly willing to "welcome", but at the same time having the right to demand guarantees for the defense of their own security and private property.

Nothing is clarified. Only recurring phrases by well-known do-gooders that accompany that of those who manage hospitality under the banner of "no profit". All in unison ready to justify inconvenience, clumsy and botched managerial improvisations with the word "emergency", used for convenience and not because it is an objective reality. The migration process is, in fact, now consolidated and with an absolutely predictable trend over time and quantifiable in numbers and, therefore, to be addressed with a planning, albeit in principle (more).

Defining it as an emergency as we were faced with a sudden natural catastrophe is, on the other hand, an exemplification at least opportunistic because it justifies decisions that also conflict with the rights of Italian citizens and because it also allows us to apply "leaner" regulations for purchases of the necessary resources or the assignment of assistance to migrants.

This questionable definition of the ongoing process is now superimposed on another of a legal nature. An unclear sophism when defending the status of refugees for those arriving on our shores but at the same time the judiciary arrests smugglers for "aiding and abetting illegal immigration".

It has already happened in the past as widely publicized by institutional sources and yesterday confirmed by the arrest for this crime of the two smugglers who ferried the family of the Syrian girl Ragad, left to die on the dinghy of a diabetic coma after they had thrown the vials overboard. the insulin the girl needed.

A question therefore arises spontaneously and I would like to address it to the Minister of Justice and the Interior: are refugees or illegal immigrants transported on rubber boats?

To date it is not clear. Even the Parliament does not expect clarity to be clarified with targeted questions.

Rather, it is preferable to continue to speak of an emergency, an absolutely suitable word to justify inefficiency, lack of planning and even extreme management of public order.
