Marò: accepted the appeal against the NIA, suspended trial

28/03/14

Early morning news, the Indian Supreme Court upheld the appeal of Massimiliano Latorre and Salvatore Girone against the decision to entrust the investigation to the NIA, the trial has been suspended and the next hearing will be held in four weeks.

Definitely a positive sign after the sudden acceleration of the Renzi government which, accompanied by the determination of some parliamentarians, immediately began to exert international pressure, after months of complete compliance with Italy towards India.

An executive chaired by Senator Monti who had decided to delegate to India all rights towards the two soldiers even in the face of irrelevant Indian insurance as well as enshrined by the Italian Supreme Court on the subject of the death penalty ??

A hesitant approach by the Letta government when the deputy foreign minister spoke of ?? rules of engagement ?? shared with India. The same one who today, however, suddenly discovers that ?? the government is working to internationalize the crisis ?? and through an Italpress Agency tells us that "the Italians know the question of the marines well: it is an open wound. The government reiterated that it does not recognize Indian jurisdiction on this case: alongside this choice , there is the basic framework on which the government has worked in recent months, that is, internationalizing the crisis ". Probably his is a temporal reference to the current government and the parliamentary initiatives in progress rather than to the silent management of the former minister Bonino who, as far as we can remember, had not shown the will to internationalize the case, rather committed to prepare to ?? open ?? the dossiers relating to the case.

A trend reversal that of the vice minister of foreigners that leaves hope and that is expected to be shared by the "Machiavellian" ?? dr. de Mistura that in recent months he should have learned that his approach of respect very close to the subjection to India would not have led to anything and would have damaged our marines instead.

We are facing an important decree as it was possible to block the NIA from filing the cases of indictment and then proceeding against the two Navy riflemen with the risk that His Act would be applied.

A year has passed since the two marines were sent back to India and wrongfully returned to Indian justice. On March 22, 2013, the two soldiers were returned to India officially to ?? honor ?? a commitment signed by the Italian ambassador in Delhi but in fact, as can be deduced from successive declarations of those days by Senator Monti issued in parliament, to defend economic interests that are not better defined. From that moment until today, nothing important had happened.

With today's decree a new phase could be opened if the current executive and all the parliamentarians who have shown interest in the case, will continue to be determined to exert a constant and progressive international pressure so that the two riflemen are recognized • the functional immunity and the right to exercise judicial action are handed over to Italy, even as sentenced by the 18 January 2013 by the Supreme Court of Delhi on the distance of Enrica Lexie from the Indian coasts 15 February 2012.
