Does the minister "Roberta Pinotti" redeem herself in extremis at Motodays?

A few months have passed since a media campaign exploded against a carabiniere of the Florentine Baldissera barracks for an alleged Nazi symbol displayed in his accommodation (v.articolo). Remember?

The minister "Roberta Pinotti" had immediately condemned - evidently based only on the information of some media, not the interested party - a faithful servant of the state stating that "who exposes a flag of the Reich can not be worthy of being part of the armed forces and therefore of the Carabinieri ..."(v.articolo).

We like to think that, also helped by our newspaper, the prepared and competent minister has understood the underlying error in having exchanged a historical flag of the German imperial navy for a symbol of the Third Reich.

It is abhorrent, indeed hatefully "Nazi", to demonize historical symbols for political speculation. In the opinion of the writer, respect for any historical path, positive or negative that one wishes to define, should be sacrosanct even when not shared or sharable. And with regard to Nazism there can be no room for the slightest doubt - in Italy - given our legacy of "two thousand years of civilization on our shoulders" (v.articolo).

But with this premise where do we want to get there? Simple: to congratulate the minister for the intellectual journey realized in a few months.

It was no small surprise that yesterday, during a visit to the motorcycle event that annually gathers fans bikers in the capital, the "Motodays", we came across some of the means most used by the Nazi troops in the Second World War.

In particular stood out in the large Army stand - between various historical means of the period (Allies and the Axis) - a "NSU Kattenkrad half-track of the 1940".

Now, beyond the fact that the correct name should be "Kettenkrad" (contraction of Kettenkraftrad, "Tracked vehicle", in German not in Bari ...), the exposed one is one of the means that in the collective imaginary most refer to the Nazi period.

If this were not Online Defense, someone could have screamed scandalized that "who exposes a vehicle of the Reich can not be worthy of being part of the armed forces ...", then someone else would have resumed the news, to conclude the perverse chain with the commissioning of a poor and faultless person in charge of the historical museum of military motorization. The classic game of the national incularella ...

What could have happened then from the December witch hunt?

What was clear that the Italians did not drink it then and are today even more prepared in the history of their politicians ?!

That a week ago a whole political class was swept away (in perspective, not yet really) from the vote ?!

That the minister did not immediately go to his "armored" college ?!

We like to believe that, being an intelligent woman, "Roberta Pinotti" has shown - with discretion - to know how to make mistakes and know how to redeem in the public eye.

So good "Roberta Pinotti"! Better late than never...
