The 2 June in Italy and abroad ...

02/06/15

Today was opened with obvious criticisms of our prime minister's attire visiting yesterday our contingent still present in Afghanistan. After the results of the elections it was a must to shift the attention elsewhere and show closeness to those who would have spent the 2 June thousands of miles away.

Renzi is a great communicator and as such took advantage of the opportunity to be photographed with our soldiers but, to arouse sympathy, he decided that jeans and camouflage with white shirt were a winning combination.

Personally I do not want to criticize the gesture but the estate for the following reasons:

- it was obvious that - being now in the public domain who did not do military service - they would have broken the boxes in the newspapers;

- being in the presence of the Afghan president Ghani in formal dress, it would have been nice to reciprocate avoiding at least jeans;

- having mentioned several times President Obama in his Afghan speech of extension of the mission (a few months) could have taken the example of his colleague and get dressed up as "Renzie", which is much more cool.

I do not want to go into the merits of the honors of soldiers sent to defend the peace and bring democracy that was faced with an Afghan president who has not given a fair and regular election, distorting a result that gave him a defeat (v.articolo). They are logical Afghan and - from Afghans - they have already agreed. The fact is that last year we were watching and even today my blood boils when I hear the rhetoric of compliments "for the democratic path taken by the country", especially thinking about who, believing, for what he gave life.

The celebration of the June 2 in Italy has passed as usual, with the usual enthusiasm of plastic - there is little to be happy about the way the country is going - and so many original words.

But basically there was the unexpected news of the day to raise the enthusiasm: the first 2 June of President Mattarella!

Abroad, on the other hand, rhetoric is not celebrated but the raw reality is tackled.

In Iraq, the prime minister declared that, only with the fall of Mosul, 2300 Humvees (a multi-role tactical vehicle that we can - even if someone turns up their noses - match our Lynxes) ended up in the hands of ISIS together with a large number of weapons. Just to give an idea, the Italian armed forces of VTLM Lince should have just over half.

Where do I want to get there?

I would like to make it clear that while we spend time in ceremonies like we were in carefree and peaceful years, we shoot and die elsewhere. ISIS is less than a hundred kilometers from Baghdad and it is not difficult to imagine that hundreds of militants have already infiltrated the city. Yesterday, three suicide bombers blew themselves up by driving explosives-laden Humvees, killing 30 Iraqi soldiers and wounding 40.

Positive news arrives from Turkey: a large part of the country's intelligentsia has sided with the opposition newspaper Cumhuriyet.

The newspaper had denounced in recent days the sending (disguised as humanitarian aid!) Of weapons and ammunition to anti-government rebels in Syria, with the assistance of the Turkish Services.

The newspaper "will pay dearly" was the reaction of the Turkish president Erdogan. It has always been said and written that "Turkey supports terrorists in Syria", from today it must be said that "the Turkish government" and not the Turks - not the majority at least - supports and feeds the war across the border.

Of course, however, what a fortune to live in Italy.
