"Italian" bombs to Saudi Arabia: the ox that says horned to the ant

There is an attack on Italy: unworthy, shameful and - worse - tremendously hypocritical.

Since yesterday, the media have resumed an investigation, translated into a video by The New York Times (see link), which accuses our country of bombs with Saudi Arabia that - quenched - explode in Yemen.

The gravity lies not in the news on the production itself - secret of Pulcinella made clear and now made public by years of articles and television broadcasts - but in the fact that the accusations come from an American newspaper, from a country that, only last spring, signed an agreement for military supplies worth 110 BILLION dollars (v.articolo)! So let's not talk about the millions of the specific case ...

We also emphasize that the Sardinian producer company and "under accusation" is a mere manufacturing site owned by Rheinmetall, the historic German armaments group (present on the battlefields for over a century ...).

I would like to say in the video that "Saudi" airplanes drop "Italian" bombs when those in the images are F-15 (aircraft produced in the USA!) Is simply ridiculous and offensive. Do they believe that the level of public intelligence is so low ?!

Let's open a parenthesis. That the war in Yemen is a swine is clear, we have supported it for some time (v.articolo) and not even against the current: unlike other conflicts, there is not even a current, only guilty silence.

Senator M5S Roberto Cotti said he had provided the material to the American newspaper: "After months of close collaboration with the NYT, to which I provided videos, photos, documentation, contacts, here is the investigation of the prestigious American newspaper. The denunciation is strong, the overwhelming evidence, the responsibilities of the Italian Government very evident. A government that continues to authorize the export of the bombs despite my complaints, with well 6 parliamentary questions that have not deigned to answer to try to justify their work. A commitment, mine, finally rewarded".

The world of military supplies has (or "had" at least before ISIS ...) as final recipients the governments and their armed forces. We are talking about a huge business that Italy, thanks to the rhetoric of "less weapons = more peace", loses for decades (along with thousands of jobs) mocked by the competition.

A few decades ago, with the campaign against mines, an Italian company that was an international leader in the market, Valsella, was closed. When (on the Italian side) the production of bombs was proposed that would become inert after a period of time, the answer was negative and to "Now will you stop too?" we were basically told “With cabbage! Now we will also produce your market share! ”. In fact, all countries except mine-producing countries adhered to the following Ottawa International Treaty against anti-personnel mines: competition! But you know, the ways of hell are paved with good intentions ...

I believe that if we really want to fight for peace or for what is simply considered right, we should always do more. As in the aforementioned precedent, it is useless to disgrace their country by playing the game of others who would do well to shut up: at least we we do not help the Saudis with our troops and means.

If you are fighting for humanitarian ends you should also risk your own skin on the field, not on the poll. A single life will never be worth thousands. That is if it is really for them that we fight publicly ...
