Mastercard, an American company with registered office in New York and branches in Belgium and Great Britain, has announced that it has decided to increase investments in Belgium to create its European hub for the fight against cybercrime, the Cyber Resilience Center.

The news comes shortly after a similar announcement regarding the opening of an intelligence and cybersecurity center in Vancouver, Canada, for which the company seems to be investing $ 510 million and 380 jobs, in addition to the partnership. of the Canadian government through the Strategic Innovation Fund.

The European site, one of Mastercard's six technology centers, will be located in Waterloo, the first of its kind outside North America. The amount of investments is currently unknown.

The inauguration of the center is scheduled for the beginning of 2021, which suggests that there may be good working odds for European cybersecurity experts

The center will have the whole of Europe as its competence and the position was chosen precisely on the basis of its proximity to the European institutions, which should facilitate the sharing of information but also strategic vision and facilitate compliance with the GDPR.

The Center will deal with cybersecurity for the European continent and will connect with national centers, crime enforcement authorities, banks and large industry. These include Interpol, the National Bank of Belgium, the British National Cyber Security Center and the Center for sharing and analyzing information on financial services.

Payment companies, banks and insurance companies, managing huge amounts of money and data, are the first to be interested in the problem of cybersecurity and their investments, in fact, are proof of this.
