A few days ago a dear friend, Lieutenant Giugliano, announced that, without some regret, he had also come to him to put down his backpack. Another alpine mountain gunner retired after a full-time expense for the homeland, for us.
Every soldier, in fact, is a man (now also a woman) sacrificing his life and that of his family for collective well-being. A sacrifice, yes, because despite many may think differently - perhaps seeing the due respect and emphasis that is given to the military authorities in public celebrations - even the highest officers sacrifice a peaceful existence for another made of continuous shifts and risks in the first person of his own life. The purpose? That's always: the preservation of patriotism and the defense of rights, today typical of many Peace Support Operations.
His friend Giugliano wanted to tell his experience on a few pages in which the impressions of a soldier and a man are collected. This little book I wanted to propose to readers of Online Defense certainly it may bring some memories back to the mind, for some, and may be useful for others.
These written pages capture a remarkable life experience at the service of peace offered by the Lieutenant Giugliano because we can all understand and almost touch on what our soldier does today in the 21st century.
