A Military Alpine Rescue team of the 3rd Alpine Regiment of Pinerolo intervened today to rescue a mountaineer who fell during the descent from Monviso, upstream of the Andreotti bivouac.

The Alpine Taurinense, present for some days on the "King of stone" just for a series of exercises of the Military Alpine Rescue Teams, were returning from an ascent from the summit of Monviso when they were alerted by a mountain guide who had assisted and given first aid to a mountaineer fallen from a height of about forty meters.

The Alpine troops have therefore reached and stabilized the injured person, who miraculously survived the fall but with numerous multi-trauma, meanwhile providing with the radio equipment supplied to call the helicopter rescue and Piedmontese Speleological Rescue technicians. The timely intervention of the helicopter has enabled the injured to be transported safely to hospitals.

Le Military Alpine Rescue Teams of the Alpine Troops, whose primary objective is to provide assistance to troops in training and in mountain operations, are composed of military personnel in possession of specific military qualifications in the skiing, mountaineering, meteorological and health sectors. These qualifications, linked to the mountain environment, make the Military Alpine Rescue Teams a special capacity of the Alpine Army Troops, paying employment in a wide spectrum of emergencies, as demonstrated in this case.
