16/12/19

As part of the Technical Application Course of the Officials attending the 197th “Tenacia” Course of the Army Training Command and Application School, a battlefield tour, on the places where the battle of Magenta took place on June 4, 1859.

The 121 officers of the Application School began the field day with a visit to the Museum of the "Battle of Magenta of 4 June 1859" in the homonymous locality and subsequently visited the bridges over the Ticino and the Naviglio Grande, theater of the crossing of the two streams, which was the basis of the conduct and development of the Turbigo (MI) and the battle of Magenta (MI), known milestone in Italian Risorgimento history. From that clash of the 2nd War of Independence, which saw the Austrian and Franco-Piedmontese troops as protagonists, the reunification of Lombardy with the nascent Kingdom of Italy will emerge.

At the same time, the young officers carried out an activity of analysis and tactical planning for work groups, translating into practice the notions of military history, tactics, operational information and logistics learned during their training.

The civil authorities and the local historical cultural associations that contributed to the framing of the arms events also took part in the activity.

The study of military history constitutes a fundamental element in the training of young officers, who base the construction of their technical - professional future on the study of historical - military events. This further enhances the multidisciplinary approach in the training of officers, consistent with military and university studies and possible scenarios of use by the Army.
