The students of the 13th course for amphibious explorers of the "Serenissima" lagoon regiment concluded, a few days ago, the evaluation test of survival in a hostile environment. The activity, foreseen by the training process to acquire the patent from Amphibious Explorer and to become part of the Explorers platoon, took place in the Roana district, on the Sette Comuni plateau in the province of Vicenza.

Pupils simulated surviving a helicopter crash, being isolated without equipment, escaping capture and returning to friendly territory. During the intense activity, which lasted over ten days, the ability of the students to build a makeshift shelter, to manufacture rudimentary occasional weapons, to orient themselves in an unknown environment and to obtain water and food was evaluated.

The test concludes the first phase of the course, lasting three months, which saw the number of students progressively reduce from 11 to 6. Once this phase is completed, the students will have to face a further three months of training to specialize in the conduct of amphibious reconnaissance and , if successfully passed, they can be part of the RECON platoon, a highly specialized underwater unit of the "Serenissima" lagoon regiment.

To be able to attend the course Amphibious Explorers the students had to pass, upon arrival at the regiment, the 1st Module of four weeks of basic training and the Amphibious qualification Army, five weeks of hard combat training in amphibious and riverine environments.

If they pass the amphibious explorer course, the students will then have to obtain the qualification of Military paratrooper at Parachute Training Center of the Army and SDO (Obstacle Demolition Diver) at the Underwater Command of the Navy (COMSUBIN).
