Kick Off Meeting of the C-UAS project of the Permanent Structured Cooperation (PeSCo)

The meeting, organized by the Counter Mini / Micro Remotely Piloted Aircraft Center of Excellence (CDE CM / M APR), represents the first phase of the project development of a Counter Unmanned Aerial System (C-UAS) in the PeSCo field and has the purpose of presenting the C-UAS capabilities being tested at the Center of Excellence (CoE) and discussing the possibilities of developing advanced and efficient systems capable of countering the new threats deriving from the hostile use of mini and micro drones for the protection of troops both in operational theaters and in homeland security operations.

In the presence of numerous military and civil authorities including senior officers of the General Staff Defense, the Air Force General Staff and the Army General Staff, the mayor of Sabaudia and representatives of the industries that collaborate with the defense for the development of anti-drone projects, the representatives of 5 several European nations (Finland, France, Ireland, Poland and Hungary) have been able to appreciate the anti-detraction potential of the CoE during an operational demonstration with exercises that simulated interventions against different types of attacks conducted by hostile drones, using both as countermeasures electromagnetic jammers is, for the first time, at national level, the use of birds of prey for neutralizing the threat.

The presence of the municipal administration of Sabaudia testifies to the closeness to the newly established Center of Excellence which has an inter-force value and constitutes the national reference point in the field of study, research, conceptual, technical, doctrinal, training and operational development, to contrast, in the most effective way, the new threat.

The PeSCo was established as 11 December 2017 and includes 25 members among the EU nations, is a permanent cooperation structure of the European Defense Agency which operates in the area of ​​defense and security policy and, for the aspects related to Counter Unmanned Aerial System (C-UAS) capacity, Italy holds the lead through Sabaudia's Counter Mini / Micro Aircraft Center of Excellence (CDE CM / M APR).
