As part of the preparatory training activities for future commitments that will concern the 3rd Alpine Regiment, the exercise was organized and conducted Live Exercise (LIVEX) for selected shooters that developed in Val di Susa and in Alta Val Chisone in the Pian dell'Alpe (TO) polygon from 28 May to 1 in June.
The shooting groups of the "SUSA" battalion and other departments of the "Taurinense" alpine brigade took part in the exercise, including the 2nd and 9th Alpine regiments. The "Folgore" brigade sent cores of the 183rd and 187th paratroopers regiments and the Savoy Cavalry.
The Special Operations Forces section also sent the cores of the 4th Alpine Paratroopers Regiment and the 185th Reconnaissance and Objective Acquisition Regiment to the exercise. Moreover, as part of the cooperation activities between the Italian Army and the allied countries, shooting teams of the 13eme battaillon de chasseurs alpins of Chambery-Barby (France) of the 27e brigade d'infanterie de montagne, by virtue of the bilateral agreements that gave rise to the constitution of the non-permanent Italian-French brigade.
The staff, already extremely qualified, led an initial phase of amalgam characterized by the climb to the Sacra di San Michele (TO) and by the conduct of the diurnal and nocturnal maintenance shots from the maximum distances with the various weapons supplied, exploiting the conformation of the polygon that allows the execution of shots considered difficult both for the difference in height between the shooter and the target (High Angle) both for weather conditions. Subsequently, the selected shooters were infiltrated in the Pian dell'Alpe area with the presence of opposing forces who, exercising in the area counter-interdiction, made the activity realistic and consistent with the training objectives.
With the fifth exercise from the 2016, the LIVEX for selected shooters, led by the 3 regiment's alpine team, has confirmed the great professionalism, the high level of operational unity and the national and international value of the training moment.
