The 78th anniversary of the launch of the war on Kefalonia on 30 April 1941 was celebrated inside the "Vannucci" Barracks. The ceremony was also particularly felt by the Livorno community present with the civil and military authorities and with over one hundred young students of the "Carducci", "Galileo Galilei" and "Vespucci - Colombo" Institutes. During the event the trophies "Cephalonia" and "Meloria" were handed over to the parachutists who distinguished themselves for their spirit of sacrifice and self-sacrifice. The latter was delivered, as usual, by Signor D'Alessandro, brother of paratrooper Antonio fell in the tragedy of the 9 November 1971.

The commander of the 187 °, Colonel Nicola Mandolesi, addressing his military, pointed out that today, in the same way as 78 years ago when the parachutists in Kefalonia did not hesitate to throw themselves body and soul into the mission received, there is no hesitation or saving of energies in facing the assigned tasks. The future has an ancient heart and men and women of the 187 ° are guardians and ferrymen of those values that in the 1941 covered Italian paratroopers with honor.
