The Chief of Staff of the Army, general of the corps Salvatore Farina, attended this morning in Rome at the celebration of the 103 anniversary of the Battle of the Highlands and the Festival of Transport and Materials, a logistic weapon par excellence of the Army.

At the ceremony, held at the Logistics Support Command, in the presence of the War Flags of the Transport and Materials Weapon, the 11th "Flaminia" transport regiment, the joint maneuvering regiment and the 8 "Casilina" transport regiment and of the Banner of Rome Capital, the logistic commander of the Army, general of the army corps Francesco Paolo Figliuolo, the head of the Transport and Materials Weapon, major general Gerardo Restaino and the commander of Transport and Materials, major general Arnaldo Della Sala, as well as numerous high military, civil and religious authorities.

Also present were the medal collections of the National Association of Autieri of Italy and the banners and banners of combat and weapon associations.

The celebrations began with the deposition of a crown at the monument of the fallen soldiers in the presence of civil and military authorities. Furthermore, vintage films showing the evolution of the vehicles and materials used by the Army in different historical periods were screened.

Today's recurrence is linked to the Battle of the Highlands which in May 1916 allowed the arrest of Austro-Hungarian troops projected towards the Venetian plain in order to circumvent the Italian defensive device. The maneuver was successful also thanks to the contribution of the drivers, who were able to transfer thousands of soldiers and materials in a very short time from the Isonzo front to the Altipiani.

At the end of the ceremony, some units of the TRAMAT Weapon conducted a practical demonstration which highlighted how the Army, thanks to its ability dual-use of its units, in addition to its use in operations on the national territory and abroad, it is a precious resource of the country able to provide, promptly and effectively, support to the population in the event of public calamity and relief. In particular, the exercise was developed through the setting up of a place for injured dispatching and distribution of fast fuels and a management structure for airport services.

Today, the Transport and Materials Corps ensures support to the Armed Forces units in all operational and training activities, at home and abroad.
