The "LARAN 2019" exercise ended yesterday at the Monteromano polygon, which saw the units of Taurinense practice in a complex full spectrum scenario with the involvement of all the multi-weapon components of the brigade. A company of the 3rd Alpini Regiment of Pinerolo, reinforced by elements of the Nizza Cavalry regiment (1st) of Bellinzago Novarese, of the 1st Land Artillery (from the mountains) and of the 32nd Genio Guastatori of Fossano, supported during the movement and deployment from the Rivoli Logistic Regiment, they practiced in an environment different from the Piedmontese mountains.
The exercise, which began in the first days of September, developed through intermediate objectives that gradually made it possible to test scenarios and tactics of increasingly higher complexity. Day and night fire exercises - both with individual and departmental weapons, and with mortars, howitzers and the use of the Blindo Centauro - coordinated with the movement of the departments on the ground, culminated with a continuous fire exercise on the 23 and 24 September us.
The "LARAN 2019" has had as its main novelty elements the use, also as an "assault cannon", of the 105 / 14 object - recently reintroduced into service - and its extended use, in a non-snowy environment, of BV206 vehicles. This platform has not only been used as a tactical means of transporting personnel but also, thanks to the protection and fire capacity of the S7 version, as a real combat vehicle, able to support the light troops once they are on foot.
“Today it has been verified - in a more than satisfactory manner - the ability of Alpine Troops to know how to adapt to modern strategic scenarios, totally different from the traditional type of employment of the Alpine troops " declared General David Scalabrin, commander of the brigade, at the end of the exercise Taurinense. "The ability to move and fight in the mountains, together with the experience and professionalism that derive from it, are nevertheless essential both from a technical and mental point of view, making us even more capable of adapting flexibly and effectively to every type of mission".
The "LARAN 2019" was the perfect representation of a challenge that the Alpine Troops have been facing for years, with the aim of adapting their essence as mountain soldiers to the dynamism that operational theaters currently require and in which one can be called to operate.
