The "CBRN Interagency Effort 2018" exercise, which envisaged a joint activity between specialized CBRN assets of the 7th NBC defense regiment "Cremona" and NBCR unit of the provincial command, was concluded in the last days in the training area of Santa Severa. of the Fire Brigade of Rome.
During the exercise activity an explosion was simulated on the national territory of stolen chemical material by a not well known subversive terrorist group and stored inside an abandoned warehouse, which caused the injury of an individual. The specialist team of the VV.FF. that, after having delimited the red zone, has helped the personnel involved; subsequently the SIBCRA team of the NBC regiment took over and carried out the sampling operations and further checks. We proceeded, then, to the operational and in-depth decontamination by members of the NBC regiment and the VV.FF. of personnel, vehicles and materials, while the injured person has been stabilized and evacuated.
The joint activity has therefore made it possible to facilitate interaction, verify the interoperability of materials and equipment and refine joint intervention techniques and procedures to cope with any CBRN events on the national territory. These collaborations are part of the arrangements put in place, at inter-ministerial level, to address the specific threats on the national territory and in the context of previous collaborations underway, sealed by the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Defense and the Police Department fire, public assistance and civil defense in the field of NBC defense.
The 7 ° NBC defense regiment, the only unit of the Italian Army in its kind, as well as ensuring the protection of the ground forces in operations with all the technical-tactical activities necessary to ensure the continuous operation even in the contaminated CBRN environment, in its role "duale" is responsible for technical-specialist support for civil institutions involved in CBRN defense actions in Italy.
