Change of Commander at the "Piave" Barracks

The rotation ceremony took place yesterday at the "PIAVE" Barracks in Civitavecchia, in the presence of the civil and military authorities, the Combatant and Weapon Associations, the Banner of the City of Civitavecchia and the commander of the Brigadier General Artillery Command Fabio Giambartolomei, the rotation ceremony under the command of the 7th CBRN “Cremona” defense regiment between Colonel Fabrizio Benigni, transferring commander, and Colonel Paolo Stella, incoming commander.

Accompanied by the music of the band of the Grenadier Brigade, all the regiment personnel equipped with the special protective clothing that are used in the various operational scenarios to protect personnel during identification, sampling and reclamation activities, have been deployed.

Colonel Benigni cedes the command after more than two intense and full years of activity during which the regiment participated in important specialty exercises in Italy and abroad in the framework of numerous multinational and NATO initiatives, continued and increased the commitment in foreign operating theaters (Libya, Kosovo, Iraq, Kuwait, Lebanon, Niger) and contributed to the Safe Roads operation in the squares of Rome, Naples and Civitavecchia. The regiment has also developed its own special employment capabilities to protect the Armed Forces with a view to preventing the chemical, biological and nuclear threat, from an interdicasterial perspective and "dual systemic use" by deepening the interaction with the different components of Civil Defense dedicated to intervene in the national territory.

"I address you, men and women of the regiment" were the commander's farewell words "always be aware of the important role you play, in a context that requires high professionalism and ability to face increasingly diversified and demanding challenges".

Colonel Stella comes from the General Staff of Defense and returns to Civitavecchia as commander after four years having spent about seven years at the 7 ° as company commander and commander of the 1 ° battalion.

The 7 ° CBRN defense regiment "Cremona" is the specialized unit of the Army, equipped with special means, equipment and instruments for the conduct of technical-specialist CBRN activities. The available skills, validated also within NATO, are constantly used in all operations involving the Armed Forces and can also be confirmed in the institutional sphere in specific technical and operational activities (CBRN detection, identification and decontamination) carried out in the territory national in support of Civil Defense Bodies / Bodies.
