Visit of the Defense Commission of the Chamber aboard Nave Magnaghi in Beirut

On 4 October 2018, in the port of Beirut, the Defense Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, in Lebanon to visit the national military missions stationed in the country, boarded Nave Admiral Magnaghi, engaged in the bilateral Italy-Lebanon mission (MIBIL) and in the co-operation in the hydrographic field.

The honorable Gianluca Rizzo (president of the Defense Commission of the Chamber), Roberto Paolo Ferrari and Marta Antonia Fascina, with the parliamentary adviser Annalisa Cipollone (secretary of the Defense Commission) were received on board, accompanied by the commander of the MIBIL, by the officer for the Defense and the first adviser of the Italian embassy in Lebanon Simona De Martino.

Hon. During the greeting to the crew, Rizzo underlined the importance of the mission, expressing satisfaction with the activity in progress and the closeness of the whole nation to the personnel operating in the context of Italy - Lebanon cooperation.

The activity of Nave Magnaghi in Lebanon is divided into two complementary areas, combining a campaign of hydrographic surveys carried out by joint personnel of the Italian and Lebanese Navies, with an intense training program of the latter's personnel, to supplement the training offer of MIBIL.

The Lebanese military are transferred theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of navigation, communications and fire safety, both in port and in navigation, supporting the Italian personnel and then continuing with exercises where the Lebanese personnel work autonomously, under the supervision of the instructors of the Navy Air-Naval Training Center, board the ship.

The visit on board was a precious opportunity to illustrate the results achieved within the MIBIL and underline the importance of cooperation in the sector of Hydrography, Oceanography and Nautical Cartography which aims at the creation of the first co-produced nautical chart.
