The historic city of Tiro was, in recent days, the protagonist of the "Food Festival and Cultural Integration, held in the presence of Brigadier General Diodato Abagnara, commander of the Sector West of UNIFIL from the 19 last October, date on which the alpine brigade Julia, has given way to his colleagues in the "Garibaldi".
Entertained by the engaging sound of Fanfare of the bersaglieri brigade "Garibaldi", arrived in the land of the cedars just in recent days, the Italian blue helmets, together with the colleagues of the different contingents that make up the UNIFIL mission, helped promote intercultural exchange with the Lebanese realities represented by local civil and religious authorities and numerous citizens.
Food stands e performance cultural arts have been the means to make known the national traditions with the aim of illustrating how, through the differences, we can reach a harmonious union of intentions. On the sidelines of the event, General Abagnara underlined how "the realization of such events reduces the distances and brings together, under the auspices of the United Nations, that common spirit which must always animate the cultures and peoples ".
Visitors during the event could also interact with the peacekeepers Spanish, Malaysian, Chinese, Indonesian, Nepalese and South Korean.
In addition to representing the UNIFIL mission were the Blue Helmets of the Military Community Outreach Unit, an Italian-led unit reporting directly to the commander of UNIFIL, division general Stefano Del Col, including, together with his Indonesian colleagues, the military of the 28 Army "Pavia" regiment of Pesaro - the only deputy defense department operational communications and present with its own structures in all the international missions in which the Italian Armed Forces operate - which have distributed to visitors, illustrative materials on the Mission's mandate and games for the little ones.
