In the late morning today, two VTLM Lince, belonging to a convoy of 3 Italian vehicles, were involved in an explosion upon returning from a training activity in favor of the Somali Security Forces.
At the moment there are no consequences for Italian personnel.
The causes of the explosion are being investigated.
The Italian military operates in the framework of the European mission in SOMALIA (EUTM), aimed at strengthening the Somali Transitional Federal Government (TFG), through strategic military advice to Somali defense institutions and military training. The EU military mission works in close collaboration and coordination with other international community actors present in the area of operation such as the United Nations, the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and the United States of America.
