Nave Espero participates in the NATO Sea Guardian operation

Wednesday the frigate I hope of the Navy has become part of the operation Sea Guardian of NATO and today it will leave the port of Taranto, together with the NATO naval group composed by the English ship HMS Echo and from the Croatian corvette HRV Cardiff.

The NATO naval group is under the command of frigate captain Alberto Fiorentino, commander of Nave I hope, and after leaving the port of Taranto it will begin an integration and training phase and then head to the central Mediterranean where patrol activities will be carried out under the operational control of the Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM) of Northwood (UK).

Born after the Warsaw Summit of 2016, the Sea Guardian is a highly flexible operation, able to guarantee a wide range of operational tasks that include the surveillance of maritime spaces of interest with the aim of having a clear Maritime Situational Awareness, cooperation and training for the security forces of the countries riparians (Maritime Security Capacity-Building) and the fight against maritime terrorism. Furthermore, it aims to increase coordination between the activities of NATO and those of the European Union, conducted by the means used in the EUNAVFORMED Sophia operation, in order to improve European defense and collective security, ensuring greater synergies and exploiting the peculiarities of each organization.

The ship will remain in the NATO naval group of the operation Sea Guardian until the next 21 September.
