27/02/18

The 3rd “Train the Trainers” Course, carried out in favor of eight officers and non-commissioned officers of the Somali National Army - SNA, ended at the General Dhagabadan Training Camp (GDTC) in Mogadishu.
Present at the closing ceremony, the deputy commander of the GDTC, col. Mohamed Ibrahim Osman Tifow and the Head of the Training Team of the European Union Training Mission Somalia (EUTM-S), col. Juan Lopez Martin.

Detailed disciplines during the course
During the 12 weeks of the course, the Somali military successfully followed the theoretical-practical lessons given to them by the instructors of the European Union Training Mission Somalia (EUTM-S), on topics such as leadership, motivation, human rights and rules on armed conflict.

IED counter training
The "students" were engaged in combat exercises in residential areas and in operations to combat the threat of improvised explosive devices (counter IED - Improvised Explosive Device) which represent, in fact, one of the main risks present in Somalia.
Building on the knowledge and skills acquired, the Trainees learned, in turn, the complicated "art" of training.
The training activity carried out by EUTM-S personnel represents one of the most crucial aspects contributing to the development of the Somali National Army, providing it with personnel with its own training capacity.

The National Contribution in the EUTM-S mission
From the 2010, the European Union conducts a military training mission called EUTM Somalia, aimed at contributing to the strengthening of the Somali Federal Government.

Italy has the leadership of the mission from the 2014 and from the 1 ° July 2017 the command of the EUTM-S mission is entrusted to Brigadier General Pietro Addis.

Our country contributes, with 123 military and 20 means of our Armed Forces, to provide training, mentoring and advising at the political and strategic level with the aim of increasing the capacities of the Somali national armed forces.
